Four Million More Vehicles for the United Kingdom

Four Million More Vehicles for the United Kingdom Image

With the rate of production of cars ever increasing, motorists in the United Kingdom will not only be filling out a lot more forms for Motor Warranties, they will also be facing a future full of delays on the country's roads, with the RAC claiming that an additional four million vehicles will be hitting the streets over the course of the next 25 years.  At the same time, the spending on infrastructure by the British government is actually being cut.

The volume of traffic on the roads of the United Kingdom is expected to be as much as 43% higher than it is today by the year 2035, which certainly implies that car insurance companies, if nobody else, will be celebrating by then.  The group says that the biggest increase in vehicles will come in the East Midlands, but warns that "the government has significantly reduced road transport investment because of the recession and ministers have not explained what plans they have to cope with the bleak picture painted by their own numbers."

Consultancy group Arup and the RAC Foundation have conducted research that found as many as 96 non-funded plans to construct roads that are at the moment just "sitting on the Department of Transport's shelves."  The plans would provide for a significant amount of money to be earned, with the top ten schemes each giving back £6 for every pound that was invested in the projects, they claim.
