Ignorance Is Not Bliss
While the great majority of car drivers are savvy enough to be aware of the need to take out a Motor Warranty, it seems that a worrying amount don't know much else about their vehicles.
Confused.com has run the results of a survey, which shows that a staggering 72% of drivers do not even know how to check the level of brake fluid in their motor vehicles, something that is potentially dangerous. Other worrying results of the survey include the fact that 69% of the drivers surveyed have no idea how to check their engine coolant, a lack of knowledge which could end up leading to the vehicle overheating and result in extensive damage to the motor. 57% of drivers are apparently incapable even of changing a tyre, while a shocking 47% would not even know how to find the jack. This is perhaps not as surprising as it sounds, however, given that according to the survey 48% of motorists never even bother to look at their car manual!
Confused.com and road safety charity Brake are urging motorists to show a bit more interest in their vehicles in the wake of the survey results and the fact that statistics show there as many as 28.5 million cars on the road in the United Kingdom.
"Driving is one of the most dangerous things people can do on a daily basis," says the spokeswoman for Brake, Katie Shephard. "It's vital that all drivers are doing regular maintenance checks of their vehicle to ensure they are safe on the road."
