Advice to get cars ready for summer
While most people are striving to get that perfect beach body in time for their summer holiday, one road safety organisation has released ten top tips to make sure people do the same for their car.
GEM is recommending that people pay as much attention to their car as they do themselves to ensure it looks its best with advice like, "polish and paint (is) not just for fingers and toes, touch up any scratches with a paint job to restore the car's natural colour".
The tips also suggest removing dents from the bumper to make sure it is "dimple-free" and putting a car on a "pre-holiday diet" by clearing out the boot to get rid of extra weight and make it run more economically.
Drivers are also advised to "polish the head lamps to maximise their effect" and clean all mirrors to improve visibility as well as to "keep hydrated" by topping up the oil, brake fluid and windscreen washers.
And finally GEM wants to make sure people "pack the essentials" like water, a torch, a high visibility jacket and a hazard triangle in case of a mechanical breakdown, along with all driving licence, car tax and insurance details if taking the car abroad.
