Do I Need a Vehicle Warranty Along With Insurance
Some consumers tend to confuse car insurance benefits with the provisions of a Vehicle Warranty. While both types of coverage do help in keeping your car up and running, they go about the process in very different ways. One strategy of keeping the two types of coverage segregated in your mind is to see the vehicle warranty as helping to maintain your car day-to-day and providing assistance in the event that a major component fails or is recalled by the manufacturer. In contrast, your insurance is there to provide assistance in the event of an accident.
With a vehicle warranty, your car is protected against malfunctions that come about in the normal course of using the car. For example, the warranty often provides discounts on regular maintenance that helps to minimise the potential for a major breakdown of the engine, transmission or other vital system. The warranty also protects you in the event that one or more of the covered components should fail through no fault of your own. From this perspective, the warranty saves you money on repairs and also protects you in the event of a failure that did not occur due to abuse of the vehicle.
With car insurance, the focus is on providing protection in the event of an accident. Here, the cover helps to manage any repairs or other expenses that may be incurred as a result of that accident. This is very different from the vehicle warranty, in that insurance does not aid in maintenance or help when there is some type of mechanical failure. For this reason, car owners should make it a point to maintain an adequate amount of car insurance as well as a decent vehicle warranty, making it possible to enjoy the maximum amount of protection in just about any situation.
