Motorists want to be given a choice and an alternative when it comes to the insurance claims process, according to a new study.

OnePoll surveyed 2,000 drivers and found that 85% believe insurance costs are unfair, with just over half (52%) of these attributing blame to injury lawyers and claims companies.

In addition, the majority of drivers (92%) said the process of pursuing claims is complicated, while more than two thirds of car owners (67%) claim it is both lengthy and confusing.

"There is an obvious demand here from the nation's motorists for a clearer, simpler motor claims process," said Simon Drew, InterResolve chief executive.

"Motorists want to be given a choice and an alternative to the current claims process."

He added that the Government and the market need to work together to come up with a solution and consider why all small and undisputed motor claims are being directed through a 'one-size-fits-all' legal process that does not offer claimants any choice.
