Geely Comes to the UK
Chinese car manufacturing company Geely is setting its sights on infiltrating the United Kingdom market, intending to offer a rival to the Ford Focus with a price tag of £10,000 that also comes with a five-year Car Warranty. The Geely Emgrand EC7 will go on sale in the United Kingdom towards the end of next year. Similar in size to the Skoda Octavia, it will be powered with petrol engines in both 1.5-litre and 1.8-litre capacities, and will be available to purchase as both a four-door saloon and a five-door hatchback.
The vehicles, together with parts and servicing, are set to be distributed in the United Kingdom by Manganese Bronze Holdings PLC, operating under the name Geely Auto UK. Geely and Manganese Bronze Holdings already have an existing partnership to build black London taxi cabs in Coventry, which is also where Geely Auto UK will base its headquarters.
"We are all aware of the success that Korean brands, Kia and Hyundai, have had in the UK and we can work with Geely to achieve similar success in the future," says the Chief Executive Officer of Manganese Bronze Holdings, John Russell.
Following the release of the Geely Emgrand EC7 at the end of next year, the company intends to bring "at least" one new model a year to market in the United Kingdom "for the next four to five years," according to Geely Auto UK's Market Development Director, Matthew Cheyne. "We see Geely cars being attractive purchases for retail and business user-chooser customers" he says.
