Keeping Multiple Copies of Your Auto Warranty
As with any important financial document, it is often a good idea to make sure that several copies of your auto warranty are placed in strategic locations. The idea is that if some sort of catastrophe should destroy one of the copies, you still have access to at least one of the others. Here are some suggestions on where to keep those copies.
One copy of your auto warranty should be kept in the glove compartment of the covered vehicle. This can come in handy in the event that the vehicle experiences some sort of mechanical problem that you believe is covered in the terms of the warranty. A quick glance through the terms will confirm if the problem is covered and make it easier to invoke those terms and offset the cost of the repairs or replacements of the components in question.
It is also a good idea to keep a copy of your auto warranty at home, possibly in a safe or at least a filing cabinet with other important papers. Doing so makes it possible to always have a copy handy. At the same time, consider keeping a copy in a safe deposit box in a bank along with copies of other key documents, or at least keeping a copy of the warranty at a different location such as a desk or locker at work. Should a disaster such as a flood or fire at your home destroy your cache of financial documents, the copies in the safe deposit box can easily serve as backups and help make the task of recovery much easier.
