Mia Electric set for May launch
Mia Electric has happily welcomed the news from the British government that their three upcoming vehicles will be able to benefit from the Plug-in Van and Plug-in Car grants when they are launched in the United Kingdom later in 2012.
As a consequence of the close cooperation between the government's office for Low Emissions Vehicles and the Franco-German company, the planned three vehicles have been declared to be suitable for the United Kingdom having met all of the necessary requirements for performance, reliability, safety and Car Warranty standards. Because of this, those who buy a Mia Electric when they become available for sale later in the year will also be entitled to receive a discount sponsored by the government of around £5,000. That makes the price of the standard short wheelbase Mia-U around £21,000, while both the Mia Box van and the Mia-L will be around £22,000, with the final pricing yet to be confirmed.
Mia may be something of an unknown brand in the United Kingdom, but it is by no means lacking in experience, with its three electric vehicles having been created by Murat Gunak, the former head of the design department at Volkswagen, while the firm itself was bought following the spin off from the renowned developer Heuliez.
"As a father of four I wanted to pursue a new, sustainable path towards environmentally friendly mobility of the future" says Gunak. "We started with a blank piece of paper and asked ourselves... What does a customer really want to be mobile in the city?"
