Motoring Costs put Lives at Risk
Thousands of car owners are putting lives at risk by continuing to drive dodgy vehicles simply because they cannot afford the maintenance. A new study has shown that as many as one in three motorists are having to cut back on paying for essential car maintenance due to lack of money, making roads in the United Kingdom a haven for dodgy vehicles that may be completely unprepared for harsh winter conditions. The survey of 2,300 motorists all over the country also found that one in five drivers are putting off changing bald tyres even with icy winter conditions having already begun in many areas, with a further one in ten having altered their car insurance from comprehensive to just third party insurance in another bid to save money.
As many as 60% of motorists have admitted that they cannot afford to get their tyres checked prior to winter, with a staggering 80% also not having had their brakes checked either.
"Many people are having to cut back on expenses in the current financial climate, and motoring is one area that can incur hefty costs" admits the Managing Director of the Car Rentals website, Gareth Robinson. "Unfortunately it is also one area that can directly affect the safety of not just the driver but other motorists and road users. The past couple of winters have seen treacherous conditions on our roads, so drivers should think carefully about what they cut back on."
Anyone worried about their car should take out breakdown cover or a Motor Warranty, which can end up saving money in the long term.
