Top five Lamborghini cars

Along with Porsche and Ferrari, Lamborghini is one of THE names associated with luxury sports cars. Often seen as the toys of the rich and flashy, Lamborghini’s aren’t just about image. They are some of the best made sports cars in the history of automobiles. Here’s our selection for the top five Lamborghini cars.

Lamborghini Miura

Launched three years after the company’s founding in 1963, the Lamborghini Miura was a pioneer in what it takes to make a great sports coupe. It’s rear mid-engine and rear wheel drive was revolutionary at the time and quickly became the standard for high-performance cars during the sixties. It’s bold looks had an almost science fiction quality, contrasting well with the long smooth curves often associated with sports cars of the era.

Lamborghini Countach

Quite possibly the most iconic Lamborghini ever made, if you asked anyone to describe what a Lamborghini looks like, they would probably describe something very similar to the Countach. Its wedgelike shape is still distinctive, with its cabin moved forward to provide more space for a larger rear engine.

Lamborghini Diablo

The Diablo was one of the most popular sports cars of the 1990s. The first Lamborghini able to top 200mph, it was designed to replace the formidable Countach. Like its predecessors, the name ‘Diablo’ doesn’t come from its Italian heritage, rather the tradition of naming the models after famous breeds of fighting bulls.

Lamborghini Murcielago

One of the company’s early transitions from sports car to supercar, the Murcielago was built between 2001 and 2010, and supplanted the Diablo as Lamborghini’s flagship model. All-wheel drive and mid-engined, it’s a far different beast to the Miura that made the company’s name. Its V12 engine powered the car from 0-100kmph (62mph) in just 3.8 seconds.

Lamborghini Huracan

Named “Supercar of the year” upon its launch in 2014, the Huracan is one of the most desirable cars on the planet. Coveted by the rich and famous (as well as those without the budget to buy one), the car was built as a replacement for the popular Gallardo model. With a V10, 5.2 litre engine, the Huracan can reach top speeds of 202 mph. Fast and beautiful – a car that truly sums up the Lamborghini ethos.
