Top five most expensive motorbikes

It’s not just supercars that have super-prices. You don’t need four wheels to be one of the most expensive vehicles on the planet. There are some incredible, top of the range, high end motorbikes that make everyone weak at the knees. Here are the five most expensive motorbikes in the world.

Yamaha Roadster BMS Chopper

With a body almost completely covered in gold plating, the Yamaha Roadster BMS Chopper is a striking astonishing motorbike that looks like something out of a science fiction film or Japanese anime.         The bike features a 102 cubic inch air-cooled long-stroke OHV 48 twin engine, providing incredible acceleration. Its long length and chopper style makes it perfect for cruising along an open road.

Price: $500,000 (£390,000)

Dodge Tomahawk V10 Superbike

Looking like a jet engine with wheels, this incredible motorcycle is so powerful that it is illegal to drive on the road. The Dodge Tomahawk V10 Superbike is fitted with an automobile engine, 500-horsepower 8.3 litres of pure power. There was some controversy as instead of two wheels, it has two sets of two tyres on close-coupled wheels. We still think it’s a motorbike, although something out of Terminator is probably a better description.

Price:  $555,000 (£433,000)

One of the most coveted classic motorbikes ever built, the Porcupine was first made during the Second World War as a racing bike. While you can find some for a few hundred thousand pounds, one was sold at the Bonhams classic auction for almost seven hundred thousand dollars.

Price: $675,000 (£527,000)

Harley Davidson Cosmic Starship

Quite possibly the most iconic manufacturer of motorcycles on the planet, Harley Davidson have also produced the second most expensive motorbike of all time. The Harley Davidson Cosmic Starship has a bold striking look thanks to its distinctive paintwork, designed by artist Jack Armstrong. The bold orange and red colour scheme makes it look like no other Harley on the planet.

Price: $1 million (£781,000)

Ecosse ES1 Superbike

One of the fastest and lightest motorbikes every built, the Ecosse ES1 Superbike is the brainchild of three of the planet’s best racing engineers – Andy le Fleming, Richard Tyrrell and Richard Glover. Built with a frameless chassis out of carbon fibre, this bike can reach speeds in excess of 230 mph.

Price:  $3.6 million (£2,813,159)
