Volkswagen retains most secure car title
For the third year straight, Volkswagen has pulled away with the award for selling the most secure cars as well as earning the first prize as the best car manufacturer at the British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards.
The top prize in the category of Large MPV went to the Volkswagen Sharan, while the best car in the Small Family class went to the Beetle. And for the fifth time since the awards were established nine years ago, the Volkswagen Phaeton was named best Luxury Car.
For the third year in a row, Volkswagen UK was named Manufacturer of the Year in the car category. This prize is awarded to the car-maker with the highest number of models covering all market areas, and where all aspects of every model conform to the judging criteria.
The cars were assessed according to factors chosen by the people who drew up the New Vehicle Security Ratings scheme. Cars that were on the shortlist for final judging and ranking were those that had earned the top five stars for 'theft from', as they had double locks, as well as an 'E' insurance suffix. The 'E' is given to cars that have a feature that goes beyond the industry standard.
Paul Everitt, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, said the awards demonstrated the commitment" of car-makers to protect cars and vans from theft.
