The rising cost of fuel has seen as many as 80% of motorists in the United Kingdom reduce the number of car journeys they make, according to the results of a new survey from Motorpoint.  The leading car supermarket in the United Kingdom ran a poll on its website, asking their users whether they had cut down on the number of journeys they make in their automobiles after fuel prices reached a record high of 150.9 per litre for diesel, and a mammoth 80% said that they had.

Recent figures have already shown that the United Kingdom pays the highest level of fuel tax in the whole of Europe, and with the rising cost of car insurance as well - if not the cost of extended auto warranties - times are tough for British motorists, resulting in the miles per gallon level offered by an automobile becoming one of the most important aspects for prospective buyers.

"Our poll shows that rising fuel costs are seriously affecting today's UK motorists and should be a warning to the Government that action is needed on fuel duty" says the Managing Director of Motorpoint, David Shelton.  "We want people to enjoy owning a car again, without the burden of heavy taxes, which will in turn stimulate the economy.  This is why we consistently offer the best savings on our cars, providing a viable way for cash strapped Brits to buy a car without breaking the bank."
