Ask Before you Renew an Auto Warranty

Ask Before you Renew an Auto Warranty Image

Renewing an auto warranty is good idea, especially if you plan on keeping the car for a couple more years.  In many cases, there will be no significant change in the terms and provisions found in the warranty plan.  However, depending on the general condition of the car and the policies and procedures held by your warranty provider, there is a chance that at least a few things will change.

An auto warranty is designed to aid in managing repairs and replacements to various components on the vehicle if those parts should fail due to some sort of defect or other issue that is not associated with abuse or negligence by the car owner.  Since some components can reasonably be expected to wear out over time, even when the car is maintained properly and is not subjected to anything that the warranty provider would consider unusual wear and tear, it is possible that the provider may alter a couple of benefits at the time of renewal.  The only way you will know for sure is to ask.

Before choosing to renew the auto warranty, ask the provider to identify the benefits that will be modified in some manner.  You can use this information to compare the provisions of the plan with used Car Warranties offered by others.  Keep in mind there is a strong chance that the coverage provided by the renewed warranty plan may still be your best option all around.  This allows you to maintain the best possible cover and benefits on the vehicle, something that could come in handy at a later date.
