Can I Always Get A Used Car Warranty

Can I Always Get A Used Car Warranty Image

When looking at different used cars, it is important to keep in mind that there may be some instances in which it is not possible to secure a use Car Warranty.  While it is true that may dealers do provide some sort of warranty coverage with most of the vehicles on their lots, others sell cars on what is known as an "as-is" basis.  Even if you choose to go with a used car warranty that is secured from an independent provider, keep in mind the vehicle must meet certain criteria before the plan will be approved.

Many companies that provide used car warranty options will require that the used vehicle meet certain qualifications before coverage will be extended.  This includes limits on the mileage on the current engine.  The general condition of the vehicle, plus the actual vintage of the make and model will also be important in determining if the vehicle can be covered by a used car warranty, and how extensive that coverage will actually be.

The time to determine if a used car warranty can be obtained is before you actually make the purchase.  If working with a dealer, ask about applicable warranty plans and find out what is and is not included in the coverage.  When buying a car from a dealer that does not offer warranty plans, or purchasing a car from an individual, talk with warranty providers first to determine if there is a good chance the car can be covered.  This will make it possible to avoid any unpleasant surprises later on, and possibly prevent having to make costly repairs out of pocket two or three years down the road.
