Car Warranty Protection Versus Breakdown Protection

Car Warranty Protection Versus Breakdown Protection Image

Many consumers are confused by references to Car Warranty protection and breakdown protection.  In fact, some believe the two terms refer to similar products.  In fact, there are significant differences between the two, making it necessary to understand each one before buying either of the products.

With a car warranty, the car owner receives a number of benefits that may be claimed over the life of the plan, when and as certain covered events should take place.  Typically, the warranty plan will require that the owner comply with certain restrictions on the cover, including how the car is maintained and where the work is done.  The scope of the cover will depend on the type of car warranty secured, and how well the owner does with living up to his or her commitments.

In contrast, breakdown protection normally focuses on a select group of events and may or may not even provide the scope of cover for those events found in a car warranty issued by a manufacturer.  While this approach does offer some protection to the owner, it is rarely a better deal than the warranty itself.

Before choosing breakdown protection offered by a third party, compare the terms with those found in a car warranty obtained through a dealer or a provider authorised by the automaker.  Decide which one will provide the most benefit in your situation, including in terms of the cost.  Doing so will allow you to make an informed decision and be happy with the scope of cover that is attained.
