Changing Auto Warranty Plans

Changing Auto Warranty Plans Image

Even after going through all the steps to make the right choice with your auto warranty, there is always the possibility that you will want to reconsider the action.  Fortunately, it is often possible to change your plan with relative ease.  Here are some things to keep in mind.

Many new car dealers allow a grace period when it comes to the auto warranty plan.  For example, if you initially chose to go with a basic warranty rather than an extended plan that provided a greater scope of coverage, there is a good chance that at least for a certain time frame after the initial purchase, you can go back to the dealer and upgrade to that more comprehensive auto warranty.  At the very least, take a moment to check with the dealer and see if this is still an option.  If so, the change can often be implemented quickly.

Even if that grace period has passed, you may still be able to work something out with an independent provider of auto warranty plans.  By contacting providers and advising them of your circumstances, they can present you with viable alternatives that are a good fit for your particular situation.  Depending on the scope of those alternatives, you may end up with even better cover than you would have received through a dealer.

The bottom line is that just because you change your mind, you are not necessarily stuck with a given auto warranty for the long haul.  Explore your options and if something better is available, do not hesitate to look into securing that better coverage.  Doing so could end up saving you a great deal of money later on.
