Checklist helps drivers duck MOT failure

Checklist helps drivers duck MOT failure Image

A new large-scale campaign is aiming to help UK motorists avoid the expense and inconvenience of failing their MOT.

Approximately 1.5 million failed MOTs could be avoided every year if drivers simply notified their dealership of straightforward problems beforehand, according to a study by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT)

The scheme is being backed by 5,545 manufacturer main dealers across the UK, all of whom are promoting 'Minute Or Two', a new 10-step list which runs drivers through a series of basic visual checks designed to prepare for their annual roadworthiness test

Every car manufacturer in the UK is participating in the campaign, with technicians at manufacturer main dealerships ready to assist customers who feel a sense of trepidation about carrying out the checks themselves.

The full 'Minute Or Two' checklist can be viewed at, where visitors can also use a Garage Finder tool to locate their nearest dealer.

Sue Robinson, director of the National Franchised Dealer Association (NFDA), said: "The 'Minute Or Two' checks are easy and simple to perform and will save motorists time and aggravation when taking their vehicle for its annual MOT test."
