Comparison of the Audi A1 and BMW 1 Series

Two of the most popular and best regarded car makers on the planet, Audi and BMW truly live up to the stereotype of efficient German engineering.  Their models regularly compete against each other on the market. Two of their top models are the Audi A1 and BMW 1 Series. So how do they compare with each other?

Audi A1

Audi’s entry into the competitive supermini market, the Audi A1 is the smallest of their models on the market. But despite its size, it still has all the technology and driveability you expect from the famous German maker. Not as cheap as the Fiesta or Corsa, the extra money you spend is clear in the pace of the engine and the responsiveness of the handling.

There are a range of engine options to choose from, including petrol, diesel and hybrid, and if you go for the Quattro model, you get four-wheel drive too. It has also won several Car of The Year awards, including being named Car of The Year by What Car? in 2011.

BMW 1 Series

Another one of the premium superminis on the market, the BMW 1 Series does its flashier, bigger brothers proud despite its more compact size. It has the distinct BMW front grille and the stylish curves you expect from the badge.

What’s great about the 1 Series is that it takes all the good points of the 3 Series and 4 Series, and places them in a compact model without losing any of the functionality or quality. A range of engine sizes to choose from add to the package.

Which is better?

The Audi A1 has a more distinctive look than the 1 Series, but the BMW has the slight edge in terms of technology, at least when it comes to the most recent generation.
