New Mazda CX 5

New Mazda CX 5 Image

The new CX-5 is the most fuel efficient and lightest vehicle in its class and is also, remarkably, one of the most spacious as well.  The new vehicle has a regular three-year Car Warranty, list prices that will not send people into shock and a smart if somewhat identikit SUV appearance.

The new car comes with a choice of either a 2.2-litre "Skyactiv D" turbodiesel engine or a 2.0-litre "Skyactiv G" petrol engine, while also offering the best class acceleration in addition to what the company is claiming to also be the best in cabin class refinement.  The diesel engine comes in variants of 150 hp and 175 hp, and is able to rev clean through to an astonishing 5500 revs per minute.  The 150 hp version will be fast enough for the great majority of drivers, with the 175 hp version going off like a rocket.

The six-speed manual gearbox has brilliantly sweet short-shift action, with the company having used the MX-5 as a benchmark, while the brand new six-speed auto is crisp and amazingly fast.  The engines and gearboxes also provide significant weight savings, as with the rest of the vehicle.

Mazda has, in fact, succeeded in getting the weight of the CX-5 down to just 1345 kilograms, which together with the firmly damped suspension set-up ensures that the driver always feels completely in control.  The handling changes direction quickly and does not lean too much, while the electrically assisted steering has been carefully tuned to ensure the driver stays informed about the available grip.
