Protecting Your Car Warranty Rights

Protecting Your Car Warranty Rights Image

While holding a Car Warranty usually provides no great difficulties when it comes to claiming the benefits found in the terms and conditions, there may occasionally be a situation in which there is some doubt as to whether the terms of the warranty actually cover a certain repair or replacement.  When this is the case, it is important to remain calm and collected and work through the issue.  Here are a couple of things to keep in mind.

First, make sure that the event that led to the need for the repair is addressed in the provisions, and that you are in compliance with those terms.  Depending on how well you have lived up to your end of the bargain, a repair or replacement may not be covered within those terms.  Before getting upset, take the time to make sure you have done what you were covenanted to do in terms of regular maintenance and upkeep before assuming the provider is attempting to avoid honouring their end of the bargain.

If you are sure that you are in compliance, contact the provider and speak with them directly.  In many instances, this will be sufficient to have the situation considered in more detail, sometimes in your favour.  Always remain professional and respectful, as this will help keep things from getting heated and possibly derailing the dialogue before it actually gets underway.  Keep in mind that if the situation is not resolved to your satisfaction, there is always the option of cancelling the car warranty and seeking a warranty contract with a different provider.
