SEAT Arona vs Hyundai Kona

One of the most competitive areas on the car market is the crossover SUV model. Since the Nissan Qashqai made it the car of choice for families across the country. Two of the best on the market are the SEAT Arona and the Hyundai Kona. But how do they compare? Let’s take a look.

SEAT Arona

SEAT market their Arona as being the crossover SUV for the bold. Its sharp lines and impressive styling do help it stand out amongst the crowd, making it far less blocky than some of the other models from other companies. It’s impressive design has won several awards. In fact SEAT are used to awards, with their previous entry into the crossover SUV market the Ateca winning car of the year awards.

The car is a great drive, relatively smooth which is surprising for a small SUV. Suspension can be switched between different modes so you can match it to the environment you’re driving on. Handling is also responsive and makes the car fun to drive. Steering is light, so you’re not battling to take it round sharp turns.

A family car needs to make good use of the space it has available, and the Arona is no slouch here. The cabin feels big, so you won’t be ducking down inside, even if you’re over six foot tall. Its also surprisingly roomy in the back, giving you plenty of buffer space between your children should you need it. You’ll also find plenty of room in the boot, with 400-litres of space.

Hyundai Kona

Hyundai are well-known for their smart, well-built hatchbacks. And the Kona takes a lot of what’s good about them and gives them an elevated status. This small SUV is similar in size to the Kona.

Because it is a small SUV, it has a smaller wheelbase than others in the class, making it easier to navigate on urban streets. Its gearbox has also been designed so that you shift quickly through the gears, meaning you can get up to speed quickly.

You don’t expect to get a lot of speed in an SUV, and the Kona is not as agile as a hatchback. But it is still fun to drive and the precise steering gives you an excellent sense of control, especially on tight turns. One part where it does suffer is in road noise, as the car does feel a bit loud to drive on the motorway.

Space is where the Kona suffers most in comparison with the Ateca, as you will find it’s a lot less spacious in the cabin. It also lacks room in the boot.

So which is better?

One thing where the Kona does excel is in terms of price. It is much more affordable than the Ateca, offering a practical version. But it does suffer in terms of space and style when compared to SEAT’s small SUV. The SEAT Arona has received a lot more positive reviews than the Kona, including being nominated for car of the year awards. So if you ask the experts, it’s clear to see which comes out on top.
