Top cars of 2018

The year is coming to a close and it’s been a great year for motoring. Some fantastic cars have hit the road this year, while some older models continue to perform very strongly. New technology means cars are safer, comfier and easier to drive than they have ever been before. Combine that with more efficient engines and better green alternatives, and it truly is the best time to be buying a car. Here is our selection of the best cars of 2018.

Seat Ibiza

When you think of the best small cars, the mind often turns to the market leading Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa. But the Seat Ibiza has emerged as one of the best on the market. Combining a sporty, responsive drive with excellent fuel economy and low running costs, the Ibiza makes for an ideal alternative to the more run-of-the-mill models on the market.

Skoda Octavia

Skoda have come a long way since the very mention of their name was enough to make you laugh. Their reputation has been built on the back of excellent, reliable models and the Skoda Octavia is the best of the bunch. Perfect for families, its spacious interior combined with comfortable ride is at a much more affordable price to cars of similar build quality from more premium (German!) brands.

Volvo XC40

The family crossover SUV has become a highly competitive field with almost every car maker having an entry into the field – even Lamborghini! In this model, you are looking for excellent driveability, top of the range safety features, and running costs that aren’t extravagant. The best on the market in 2018 is the Volvo XC40.

Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid

Green technology has never been more important to consumers than it is today. Car manufacturers in the Far East have been at the forefront of the technology for a long time, so it’s little surprise to see the Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid as the best of the business this year. What makes it so good is that it doesn’t feel like an electric. In fact, it drives just like the normal petrol engine versions. You’ll only notice the distance where it matters – in your bank balance!

BMW 3 Series

It might seem strange to see a car on this list that is due an update next year, but the BMW 3 Series has been the best executive car on the market for almost a decade. Stylish and smart, with all the ergonomic design and intuitive technology that you would expect from a BMW, it’s a fun, smooth drive that makes tearing up motorways on the commute a breeze. If the 2019 model is only 75% as good as the current generation, it will still be one of the best in class.

Kia Picanto

Navigating the ever-crowded city streets is becoming more and more difficult for everyday drivers. To head into the urban battleground, you need the best city car on the market. And as far as we’re concerned, the Kia Picanto is the best of the bunch. Compact and easy to drive, the handling is perfect for sharp turns into side streets or for parallel parking on busy roads.
