Tyre tread campaign launched

Tyre tread campaign launched Image

October is tyre safety month and TyreSafe has launched a campaign on Facebook to raise awareness of the tread on people's tyres.

The Facebook site will encourage people to take 'the 20p pledge' which means they promise to use a 20p to test the depth of their tyre tread within the next seven days.

Its pledge will be shared with their Facebook friends, who will be asked to do the same.

Chairman of TyreSafe Stuart Jackson, said: "The 20p pledge is a great way for drivers to check their tread depth and ensure that they are safe and legal as we head towards the wettest months of the year.

"Adequate tread is essential in providing better grip and shorter stopping distances in the wet, as well as helping to reduce the risk of aquaplaning. Those taking the pledge are demonstrating their commitment to safer driving which hopefully might help reduce the number of tyre related accidents on our roads."

Safe motoring relies on sufficient tread depth. The grooves in the tread are specifically designed to clear water from the road, to allow safe driving.
