Understanding Changes to Your Warranty Coverage

Understanding Changes to Your Warranty Coverage Image

From time to time, manufacturers or dealers may implement some changes to your auto warranty coverage.  Changes of this type must be done in accordance with the provisions already found in the warranty contract, such as notifying each warranty holder of the change well in advance.  Even so, reading through the updates to the auto warranty coverage may be a little challenging.  Fortunately, there are a few ways to cut down on the confusion.

Most notifications of updates to auto warranty coverage will note which sections of the original warranty are being updated, deleted, or added to the terms.  This is good, since it provides you with a point of reference.  Take the time to compare the changes with the older terms within the context of the agreement.  Often, this helps to put the changes into perspective in ways that simply reading the updates can never do.

If you cannot make sense of the changes, contact the dealer or manufacturer and arrange to discuss the changes to your auto warranty coverage in more detail.  Often, they can provide you with examples of how the updates would work in the broader scope of the coverage, making it much easier to get a handle on how the changes relate to you and the particular make and model that is covered.  In some cases, telephone contact information is enclosed with the notification of the changes, making it even easier to get in touch with someone who can help you understand the auto warranty coverage a little better.
