What to Watch for When Comparing Auto Warranty Plans

What to Watch for When Comparing Auto Warranty Plans Image

It is no secret that auto warranty plans are not all created equal.  While most will offer essential protection, the terms and conditions surrounding those benefits may vary.  Before you commit yourself to any warranty plan, take some time to know exactly what is in that contract and make sure you understand what is and is not covered, and what you have to do in order to qualify for that coverage.

The process of evaluating auto warranty plans begins by finding out what is included in each plan.  Do not make assumptions; read the contracts from beginning to end.  Make a note of each benefit listed and under what circumstances you have access to those benefits.  Also consider the degree of coverage associated with each benefit.  While some may be covered in full, others may only be covered up to a certain percentage.  Also make note of what is expected of you as the owner and operator of the covered vehicle, especially in terms of how often and where car maintenance can be performed.  This will go a long way toward helping you understand what must be done in order to keep the warranty valid.

Follow this process with every auto warranty plan you are thinking of securing.  As you look deeper into the particulars of each, a few will begin to emerge as obviously better options.  Match the range of benefits to what you can reasonably afford to pay for the coverage, and make your final selection.  While this means a bit of work on the front end, you efforts can pay huge returns should you ever need to claim the benefits found in the plan.
