Worst Car Insurance Dodgers in West Yorkshire

Worst Car Insurance Dodgers in West Yorkshire Image

The Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) has released new figures that show that drivers in West Yorkshire are among the worst in the country for driving while uninsured.  Seventeen of the most problematic postcodes in the United Kingdom are situated in either West Riding or the West Midlands, according to the report.

Five of those 17 places are situated just in Bradford alone, while the region also has over seven times the national average of drivers going on the road without any adequate - or indeed any - insurance coverage.  There are estimated to be around 1.4 million drivers in the United Kingdom who, regardless of whether or not they have Car Warranties, do not have any kind of insurance at all.

The MIB figures also suggest that as many as 160 fatalities and 23,000 injuries that occur on UK roads are caused by drivers who do not have insurance.  As of June this year drivers who do not have insurance can face prosecution even if their vehicles are not being driven, unless they either get insurance or have the car declared to be off the road.

Bradford Police say they have already seized more than 1,000 cars this year in an attempt to try and manage the problem.  The MIB says that the figures in West Yorkshire are so bad that they are almost single-handedly putting a halt to the national progress that has been made to deal with the issue.
